An awareness programme about the IBDLP programme as part of the celebration of sustainable development Conclave 2013 was held at Ranikor C&RD block on 2nd July 2013 where 123 partners attended the conclave for the day.
The programme started at 10:00 am where the Block Development Officer chaired the programme. He welcomed the officials of the district, the resource persons and all the villagers present. The programme started with a speech from Shri M.S. Sangma, DPO and member Secretary, BDU South Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat. This was followed by the presentation of bouquets to the resource persons, after which Shri S Lyngdoh, APO, State council of Science Technology & Environment Meghalaya gave a speech on the department and its programme. He also highlighted some of the Technologies like the improved chulhas, low-cost sanitation, low cost water filter, rain water harvesting, low cost oven for bakery etc. He added that they also provide demonstration programmes which are then followed by technology training camps. Most of the technologies, he added, are low cost and eco friendly.
This was then followed by a speech from Shri. D. Marbaniang, Lecturer, St Anthony’s College Shillong. He talked about Financial Awareness. He also mentioned that most of the people of the state are not aware of financial planning and do not know how to save or to invest in the future generation. Shri M. Diengdoh, Tourism Officer Nongstoin, then followed with a speech on rural and Eco Tourism. There are schemes, he mentioned, from the department like home stays and resorts. He added that the area has the potential in terms of tourism. This was then followed by a speech by Smti. D Kharshiing, EAC. She talked about the IBDLP programme and its objectives. She also explained the role of the EFCs and how people can take advantage of their existence for improving their livelihood. The Programme came to a close with the vote of thanks by the chair.
