Food production, bakery and patisserie training programme at Baghmara

Tourism is a booming industry in South Garo Hills and as a result the need of the hour is setting up quality food stalls and eateries to satisfy the appetite of the hungry tourist. With this purpose in mind, The Food Craft Training Institute (FCI) has been set up to provide the inhabitants with the skill set to cook mouth watering dishes. However, this fact has yet to materialise and thus the BDU, South Garo Hills has partnered along with the Tourism Development Committee to address this matter. A month long training on Bakery and Food Production courses had been conducted at Baghmara Tourist Lodge w.e.f 5th August to 7th September/2013, wherein 50 entrepreneurs from Baghmara and its adjoining areas including four blocks of Rongara C&RD block, Baghmara C&RD block, Gasuapara C&RD block took part.

The training consisted of theory as well as practical classes on personal hygiene, kitchen maintenance and baking classes on several kinds of confectionary goods. The participants were divided into two groups of 25 each and were meticulously tutored on different aspect of the kitchen and baking. All participants were given a stipend of Rs. 2000 as well as a certificate from the Food Craft Institute, Tura.
