Drip irrigation is a form of irrigation that saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of many different plants, either onto the soil surface or directly onto the root zone, through a network of valves, pipes, tubing, and emitters.

The Divisional Soil and Water Conservation Department of South West Khsi Hills district in convergence with Umit¬ Umsohphlang Watershed, IWMP-3, with funding from the Meghalaya Basin development Authority installed a sample drip irrigation system at Mawbidong and Phlangkynshi village in SWKH.

The purpose of this activity is to demonstrate the drip irrigation system in places where horticulture is the main source of livelihood and is greatly hampered due to lack of rain during the drier season.

On seeing its advantages, locals are already interested in replicating this intervention.
