As part of improving access to markets for producers in the state, under the Meghalaya Livelihoods and Access to Markets Project (Megha-LAMP), a 1km road was constructed at Kyrphei village, under Mawsynram C&RD Block to link the farmlands to existing roads. This is expected to ease transportation of farm produce to nearby markets and enhance outflow of goods from the area leading to overall improvement in income for local farmers.
The road was constructed using a modern technology known as 'Plastic Cell Technology' which is easier to repair and has much lower maintenance cost when compared to conventional tar roads. This technology is particularly suited for areas with heavy rainfall such as Mawsynram. Damages can easily be repaired by the Dorbar using maintenance fund that has been collected by it.
The road was constructed through convergence with funds coming from Megha-LAMP (Rs. 30.99 Lakhs), MGNREGS scheme (Rs.3.93 Lakhs) and contributions from the community (Rs.20,000) in the form of labour.
The road provides accessibility to 139 households covering a population of approx. 700 people. Since it was built, the road has also benefitted about 100 more households from adjacent villages.
